SPINACH HYBRID SWISS CHARD

Sowing Time June-July and October to January
Field Preparation
Ploughing Deeply plough the field 2-3 times to achieve a fine, loose tilth, ensuring good aeration and drainage.
Soil Ideal is well-drained, loamy, or sandy loam soil with a pH of 6.5-7.5.
Drainage Raised bed (15-20 cm high) to prevent waterlogging
Seed Treatment Thiram@2.0 gram/kg of seed before sowing
Spacing
  • Sow the seeds at a spacing of 30 x 15 cm
Seed Rate 30-35 kg/ha
Manure and Fertilizer
FYM Apply 10-12 tonnes of Farmyard Manure (FYM) /hectare 10-15 days before sowing, mixing it well with the soil.
Basal Fertilizer Dose
  • 80:25:25 kg NPK/ hectare
  • Apply whole of FYM, P 2 O 5 and K 2 O and 1/4 nitrogen before sowing. Rest of nitrogen should be applied in splits after each cutting.
Irrigation
  • First irrigation should be given immediately after sowing and the second on the third day and subsequent irrigations at 7-10 days interval.
Interculture operation
  • Two weeding’s and hoeing one each after 30 and 60 days of sowing are recommended. Preplant application of Stomp 30 EC (Pendimethalin) @ 1.0 kg/ha can effectively control measures the weeds.
Diseases & Pest Control

  • Leaf eating caterpillar: It can be controlled by spraying Carbaryl 50 WP @ 2 g/lit.
  • Leaf spot:Carbendazim @ 1 g/l of water. Spraying sulphur compounds should be avoided.
